CHOICES Programme

Brigins programme is called "lets do it". In this programme we look at the challanges that the brigíns do in there meetings.

First of all when new brigíns come in we look at doing the pre enrolment challange. It consists of the brigin law, the brigín prayer, principles, and the brigín guide promise. telling the story of st brigid and loads more.

there is lots more things we go through in the choices programme after the pre enrolment. some of them are lets be creative, lets be healthy, lets go out, lets discover, lets keep in touch , lets go green, and badges

Guides (10-14)

Our Guides (aged 10-14) meet every Friday from 7.30pm to 9.30pm in the school hall. Their leaders are Niamh Tumelty, Claire Curran, Elizabeth Walsh and Agnieszka Synak. Our Rangers (Aisling, Ciara and Jenny) also help out with the Guides most weeks, along with Niamh Maguire, who is helping us out as part of her Gaisce President's Award).

As well as doing badgework, the Guides operate the Count me in! section of the CHOICES Programme.

Recent activities included:

An indoor camp with archery, canoeing and more at Birr Outdoor Education Centre (with Raheny Guides)
A national Patrol Leaders' Camp in Kilcully, Co. Cork, with patrol leaders from all over Ireland
An Taisce's National Spring Clean in April
The 2007 Dublin Diocesan competitions - we came first in their Environmental competition, well done girls!
Hikes, including one with Guides from IGG companies in Dun Laoghaire and Ballybrack
Skiing in Kiltiernan
A trip to the Panto

Cygnets (5-6)

This is the youngest age group in the Catholic Guides of Ireland. We are just in the process of setting up our own Cygnet section, so if you're interested in joining or getting involved just get in touch!

We are a girl guide company based in Dublin. We welcome new members from all around the Templeogue area.

We run activities for girls in the Cygnet (5-6), Brigin (7-10), Guide (10-14) and Ranger (14+) age groups. You can find out more about each of these groups in the section on who we are.

We're always looking for more leaders - if you're aged 17 or over and interested in helping out, please get in touch.

Brigins (7-10)

Our Brigíní (aged 7-10) meet every Monday from 6.15pm to 7.30pm in the school hall. Their leaders are Jacinta Callaghan, Lorna Dunne and Gwen O'Reilly.

As well as doing badgework, the Brigíní operate the Let's Do It! section of the CHOICES Programme.

The four sections in the Guides are Cygnets, Brigins, Guides and Rangers. Once you are over 17 years of age you can become a leader.

Rangers (14+)

We currently have four girls of Ranger age (14-19), Aisling, Claire, Jenny and Ciara, and we are always looking for new members.

In Rangers, the girls work on a higher level, attending National and International events and linking with Rangers from other companies. They can also help organise events within their Brigín and Guide sections.

In 2007, Claire attended the National Ranger Weekend in Newgrange. Read her report!

The Rangers have one joint meeting per month with the girls from Harolds X, during which they work on their own programme and plan their own activities.

Ranger activities this year could include:

Gaisce (The President's Award)
The Oisín Award
The Ranger CHOICES programme
Level 1 and 2 kayaking awards from the Irish Canoe Union
Hikes, rock-climbing and other outdoor activities
Indoor and outdoor camps
Quasar
Paintballing
Karting

A group from all over Ireland will be visiting Sangam (in India, one of the four World Centres) in 2009, but you will have to be aged 16+ by then and have been on camps with the Guides / Rangers before.

You Choose!

You plan all of your activities yourselves, with the Ranger leader acting only as an advisor. If you have any other suggestions for activities, just let us know! If you are interested in joining the Rangers section, contact Niamh at templeogueguides@gmail.com.

Templeogue Guides are looking for volunteers to help out at Guide meetings one evening a week.
No experience required and training will be provided.

What does it involve?
The Guides meet once a week during term-time to do badgework, challenges and other activities. The girls themselves play a large part in planning and running these activities. In addition to this, occasional hikes and camps are organised, usually in conjunction with other companies. These activities are planned subject to the availability of leaders or other adult helpers.

Benefits of being a Guide Leader

Training is available through the organisation in leadership, first aid, camp skills, training other leaders, and more
Opportunity to register for and complete the Gaisce (the President's Award) if you are <25
Experience of working with children/teenagers (particularly useful if you have an interest in teaching or social work)
The enjoyment of working with the girls!

There are also regular opportunities for leaders to participate in international seminars and events.

One of our leaders have already been to Slovakia twice through their involvement with the Guides, and in 2007 sailed from Inverness to Dublin on the Asgard II with Rangers and Leaders from CGI and IGG.

Benefits of Guiding
Our mission is to provide a challenging Guiding programme within a safe environment, to enable all girls and young women to develop their full potential.

The Guide CHOICES programme is divided into seven sections: Creativity, Health, Outdoors, International, Communication, Environment and a Special Project.

The girls themselves decide how they want to work through these sections, with the guidance of their leaders. You can help them to achieve this.
